Following complaints from retired employees of Hindu Religious and
Charitable Endowments department that the officials demanded bribe from
pensioners, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption sleuths
conducted a raid and seized Rs. 34,000 from the office on Thursday.
The
pensioners’ association had lodged a complaint that they had to bribe
the staff every year during mustering when their Life Certificate and
other documents were verified.
DVAC sleuths led by DSP
Sathyaseelan kept the HR and CE office under observation. Sensing
trouble, the employees left the office and search operation yielded Rs.
34,000 in cash.
The HR and CE officials claimed that it was the
annual subscription money paid by the members of the pensioners’
association. Further investigation is on.
