Tamil Nadu govt to create temple land database




CHENNAI: With the aim to control encroachment, the state government yesterday announced that it will develop a database of 4.78 lakh acres of temple land coming under the control.
MSM Anandan, The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, that a software detailing movable and immovable property belonging to temples, mutts and trusts under the Ministry had been developed for the purpose.
Moreover, a database will be developed with the aim to find details of land at one touch and thereby stop encroachment of temple lands and ensure their retrieval, apart from collecting lease amounts.
Anandan has been replying to the grants for his department for the ongoing financial year 2012-13.
He also recommended unveiling Wind and Hybrid Solar Energy in select temples of the state, consisting the Aranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam, Dhandayuthapani Temple at Palani and Tiruchendur Subramanya Swamy temple, at Rs 5-crore investment.
